Girl’s Basketball has been at a low throttle and low heat point, as teams try to iron out the kinks during non-league competition, however, Pennsbury Falcons Coach Frank Sciolla has a different vision. He knows what his girls are truly capable of and he wants to utilize that full potential. He explained the significance of the opening month of play on the WBCB Sports Pennsbury Girls Basketball Preview, “this is the toughest non-league schedule any team I ever coached has played,” said Sciolla.

That alone should speak volumes from the man at the helm of this talented nest of Falcons. Mary Miller brings athleticism and size to the group which is huge for any team. Her most important asset though is experience.  According to Sciolla, Miller brings more than 70 varsity level games to the table. She also brings forth a level of competition which is evident at all levels of competition and has been for four years.

A hard-working 5-4 junior point guard in Bella Arcuri also returns to the hardwood for the Falcons.  Coach Sciolla has no doubt about her toughness but he needs more, stating, “we need her to be more skilled,” said Sciolla. The experience really has Pennsbury optimistic but they know they will need more to win the league.

Frank Sciolla is excited to bring in some of the younger pieces to the squad. His daughter Ava Sciolla will certainly be a force to be messed with. Her dad had high praise for her, “as a 10th grader she was very successful, she presents so many issues with her ability to handle the ball and pass at her size,” said Coach Sciolla.  She can certainly be expected to gain more respect from her opponent this season.

The mismatches that some of these girls create, such as the young Sciolla, could really make this team special. There is one key piece that  could take this team to the next level. Long girls such as Miller and Mackenzie Rooney need to box out for this team to do well.  The quickness of the Falcons can also make explosive transitions fairly easy. The pieces are an interesting combination, but so is the league.

Bensalem who returns their entire lineup is certainly a force to be reckoned with and has a target on their back. The radar shows Council Rock South and Neshaminy are also threats. With William Tennent and the Pennsbury Falcons also being contenders, it will set up a wild finish for the title.
