The Pennsbury Falcons have been turning heads early on, from freshmen to their new senior leader, Mary Miller. Miller has been shooting the ball very well for Coach Frank Sciolla. Furthermore, the Falcons are shooting very well as a whole, just like Coach Sciolla needed. Another thing that makes the team special is their young core and the ability to play defense and hold the fort down. They had a tough test Thursday against the Bensalem Owls, but walked away with a huge 54-21 win.
The first quarter had a lot of long passes and aggressive defense by the Owls, who ended up committing five fouls in the opening minutes. Bella Arcuri and Ava Sciolla along with Miller really carried them, scoring eleven points in the first quarter.
At the half Arcuri had five for Pennsbury, and Miller had nine. Haley Keenan and Chloe Munyon had eight total for the Owls. At the break the score was 28-8 in favor of the Falcons. The plan for the Owls here was to stop the talented Pennsbury squad from playing up tempo.
Late in the third quarter, Bensalem star Keenan added two to finally give the Owls a whopping 12 points, making the score 41-12 as they tried to lessen the pain. The task just proved to be too big of a fight for the Owls. The efforts of Keenan did not go unnoticed by anyone in the gym but the burden was just too large.
The Owls showed great resilience scoring ten more in the coming minutes. Those points came against a gritty defense that plays full throttle for the entire 32 minutes on the hardwood. It will certainly be a thrill to watch Frank Sciolla and company continue their adventure as they work towards glory.
Despite holding their heads high the Owls just could not pull off the come back. The Owls do deserve phrase though as they have talent that is just not in sync. Once the Owls get the kinks worked out they could be contenders.
After the holiday break the Falcons head to the nation’s capital for the Title IX Classic for three games. The Falcons look to expand on an impressive 4-1 record. Haley Keenan and the 3-3 Owls head to a tournament on December 27th at Jenkintown. WBCB Sports has Council Rock South playing the Falcons on January 30th at 6:45PM at Pennsbury.
