The Ewing Blue Devils football team opened up training camp in late July with their new head coach Matt Dalessio. Dalessio has been part of the football staff as defensive and offensive coordinator for the past 10 years and an assistant coach for six years. Dalessio was officially named the head coach after Drew Besler stepped down at the end of the season.
The Blue Devils went 6-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play holding 4th place in the division last season. Coach Dalessio wants improve that record this year and is looking forward to getting back out on the gridiron. It’s his first full year as the Blue Devils head coach and he’s noticed a different dynamic in the team throughout training camp. He caught up with WBCB Sports’, Kayla Santiago on Monday morning.
Coach Dalessio believes that the team’s returning members along with the new players are going to play a big role in this years success. Coach mentioned Rafael Torres a 5-foot-11 165-pound wide receiver and corner back as a key returning member to the team. Torres dealt with injuries last season and is looking to make a comeback this year.
Senior Parris Wright had a successful season at the linebacker position last year. Wright averaged 56 total tackles last season, and looks to improve on that statistic in his last year as a Blue Devil.
