The battle of Klockner Road got off to a fast start Wednesday afternoon as the Spartans defeated the Northstars 8-2. The Spartan hitters attacked the young Freshmen left-hander for Nottingham Tyler Dunmeyer (5 IP, 6 unearned runs, 2 ER, 13 hits, 4 strikeouts, 1 walk) right out of the gate. Steinert batted around in the first inning scoring six runs off the Nottingham starting pitcher who got his first taste of this rivalry.

Dunmeyer got very little help from his defense who had six costly errors in the first three innings which the Spartans capitalized on that led to an 8-0 Spartan lead after three innings. Dunmeyer and his defense bounced back in the 4th, 5th, and 6th innings only giving up two singles the rest of his outing.

Steinert sent Senior lefty Josh Welke to the mound who was dominate all afternoon (5 IP, 3 hits, 0 ER 1 unearned run 3 walks 11 Strikeouts, 87 pitches). C.J. Pittaro led the way for the Spartans going 3-4 on the day with two singles and an RBI double. Jack Hardiman went 2-2 contributing a pair of doubles and two RBI’s on the afternoon.

Nottingham now sits at 1-5 overall and 0-4 in the Colonial Valley Conference. The Northstars take on a struggling Ewing team 0-5 Friday afternoon at 4 pm. While Steinert takes on Lawrence also on Friday afternoon who is 2-2 on the young season.
