When asked about what things the coaching staff wants players to keep in mind, the winning pitcher for Notre Dame, Steven Graver, said, “timely hitting and keep up the good defense and keep going into the tournament.”

Timely hitting is a phrase that has defined the Irish’s season to this point. The Irish once again proved that Wednesday afternoon after scoring three runs in the first inning with two outs. Nick Feretic (3-for-4) got the rally started on what was just a single but a throwing error on Lawrence allowed Feretic to move up to second base. The next batter, Jake Kmeic, (1-for-3, BB) walked, followed by another Lawrence error which allowed Kyle Rosica (1-for-4) to reach first base safely as Nick Feretic came around to score the game’s first run. Mike Kane (1-for-4) and Gavin Martin (1-for-3) had a single and double respectively later in the inning which stretched Notre Dame’s led to 3-0 after the first inning.

The Irish added two more runs in the second inning thanks to a Robbie Buecker (2-for-4) RBI single as the Irish took the 5-0 led after two innings. Not only were the Irish aggressive at the plate early on but also on the base paths stealing five bases in the first two innings.

In the fourth inning, Nick Feretic took Lawrence pitcher Alex Pasquale deep to left-center field with a two run-home run, which gave the Irish the 7-0 led. Steven Graver pitched dominantly all afternoon for the Irish (7 IP, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 H, 5 K). The story of the afternoon for Graver was the 11 ground ball outs that he forced. He did run into some brief trouble in the seventh inning, when Lawrence left fielder, Ean Dauer, got an RBI single that scored the lone run for the Cardinals. Graver struck-out the next two batters to close the game out as the Irish extended their winning streak to 13 games.

Lawrence (5-7-2) takes on Ewing (0-14) on Friday afternoon at 4pm.

Notre Dame (13-0) battles Hamilton West (16-1) in a showdown of winning streaks Friday afternoon also at 4pm and all the action will be right here on starting at 3:45pm.
